Compass Minerals Named One of Fortune's "100 Fastest-Growing Companies"

August 19, 2010

OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Aug 19, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

Compass Minerals (NYSE: CMP) today announced the company has been included in Fortune's "100 Fastest-Growing Companies" list.

"We are proud to be included in this prestigious list because it is based not just on revenue gains but also on net income growth and total return to shareholders. This ranking affirms our strategic focus on profitable growth and is a tribute to the skill and dedication of our employees," said Angelo Brisimitzakis, Compass Minerals president and CEO.

Compass Minerals, a leading producer of salt and specialty potash, ranked number 38 and is the only company on the list from Kansas or the Kansas City area. The list will appear in the Sept. 6 issue of the magazine and is available now at http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/fortunefastestgrowing/2010/index.html.

To qualify for "100 Fastest-Growing Companies," foreign or domestic companies were required to be trading on a major U.S. stock exchange, file quarterly reports with the SEC, have a minimum market capitalization of $250 million and have been trading continuously since June 30, 2007. The company must also have revenue and net income of at least $50 and $10 million, respectively, for the four quarters ended on or before April 30, 2010. Finally, the company must have posted annualized growth in revenue and earnings per share of at least 15 percent over the three years ended on or before April 30, 2010.

Companies that met these criteria were ranked by revenue growth rate, earnings-per-share growth rate and three-year annualized total return for the period ended June 30, 2010. The overall rank was based on the sum of the three ranks. Once the 100 companies were identified, they were then re-ranked within the 100, using the three equally weighted variables.
