North American Salt Company, a subsidiary of Compass Minerals (NYSE:
CMP), today announced the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has
awarded the Design for the Environment (DfE) label to one of the
company’s consumer ice melter products.
Safe Step® Power 6300® Enviro-Blend®
ice melter now will carry the DfE label, indicating that the product
meets the EPA’s criteria for environmental safety.

awarded the DfE label,” said Jerry Bucan, vice president and general
manager of NASC’s consumer and industrial business. “We’re pleased that
the agency recognized Power 6300 Enviro-Blend for its low environmental
impact and eco-friendly formula. This designation also gives assurances
to our customers looking for an ice melter product that is on the green
end of the environment spectrum.”
The EPA’s DfE label is awarded after the agency’s review team has
screened each ingredient contained in a product and found each to pose
the least concern among similar products in its class.
Safe Step is a leading ice melter brand for residential use. The Power
6300 Enviro-Blend is a low-toxicity formulation that has fewer
chlorides, is less corrosive and helps prevent refreezing up to two and
one-half times longer than conventional ice melters. It melts ice in
temperatures as low as minus 10 degrees Fahrenheit.
This is this second ice melter product from NASC’s consumer and
industrial business to receive this designation. Safe Step Pro Series®
960 Choice Formula, made for building maintenance and landscape
professionals, also carries the DfE label.
